I've been using REAPER for 9 years and am still learning new ways and methods for using it. But when I compare all the efficiencies I gain when using REAPER compared to my old DAW, ACID Pro, REAPER wins hands down. One of my main nitpicks is how finicky MIDI clip lengths can be, particularly when you extending and shortening them. MIDI in REAPER can be a little clunky at times. You have your drums fully routed and ready to rock. The next time you need it you can just call up the template. Then you colour the tracks as you like, select them all the drum tracks (both the vst tracks and the drum audio tracks) and "save tracks as template". Save this within the plugin just in case. Then you need to configure the plugin itself to output the different drums to the audio channels. As it's drums you only need one midi track going in so that doesn't need special routing. Reaper will most likely prompt you to build the audio routing automatically. It's a pain but for something so core for music as drums, I definitely recommend taking the time to demo the products and make sure you get the right one for you. If I couldn't use SD3 and had to use BFD3, I wouldn't cry or change my filter on social media. And in the final mix - no one can tell the difference. I say the rest are viable because they sound good. I like SD3 because it gives me a frankly ridiculous amount of control. There are other very viable choices out there that are less expensive: EZ drummer, Addictive drummer, Steven slate drums, BFD3. We'd love to hear what you have produced with Reaper, but please post it in the weekly sticky.
